Side Visual 1 “1+3” Corporate Social Responsibility Project: Building a Responsible Value Chain
In 2006, BASF first initiated the "1+3" CSR project and then launched the program under the platform of China Business Council for Sustainable Development (CBCSD). According to the model of “1+3” project, every CBCSD member company, such as BASF, teams up with three types of business partners along its supply chain – customer, supplier and logistics service provider – to promote corporate social responsibility and provide guidance for best practices and customized solutions. The three partner companies then each introduce the same concept to three further business partners along its own supply chain. The “Snowball” effect is therefore created.

Side Visual 2 Support Education
As the old Chinese saying tells: “Ten years to grow trees, but hundred years to nurture talents”, BASF profoundly understands the importance of education and has always been supporting the education in China. Since 1949, BASF began to organize the international summer course to provide students from countries around the world the opportunity to form their own impression of the global chemical industry. So far, more than 40 graduate students from prestigious universities in China have been selected to go to BASF headquarter in Germany to participate in the camp. Since 2006, BASF launched the “Greater China Industrial Summer Course” in Shanghai, intended to provide the opportunities to more college students to experience the modern chemical companies.

Side Visual 3 BASF Kids’ Lab
In October 2002, BASF for the first time introduced “BASF Kids’ Lab” – an interactive chemistry laboratory from Germany to Beijing. The lab is open to children aged from 6 to 12 free of charge and aims to let the children experience the curious world of chemistry through hands-on experiments. Since 2003, the activity successively landed in Nanjing, Shanghai, Hongkong, Chongqing, Shenyang, Guangzhou, and Taipei. So far, more than 87,000 aspiring pupils have taken part in this activity.

Side Visual 4 BASF Goodwill Teacher
BASF actively participated, as the first multinational company, in the project of “Intellectual Assistance to the Disabled” initiated by the Shanghai Huangpu Association of the Disabled. Since August 2005, dozens of “BASF goodwill teachers” have gone to classes and taught the children from disabled family on weekends.
